I did my research and found this place on-line. I wish I had never heard of this hostel. They don't mention on the website that they throw you out of your room for fours hours at midday, this is completely non-negotiable. It also means you can't check in between 12 & 4 pm. Although you can leave your luggage in an unsecured lounge type area which any hostel member or passing pedestrain has access to, VERY UN-SECURE. Staff are happy to answer any questions you may have although when we asked why we weren't told about not being able to check in till after 4pm on the website we were told "I don't have time to answer your stupid questions" then refused to check us in (although booked and a booking fee paid) until we apologised, very mature of him. The twin room made a prision cell look comfortable, we had creaky bunk beds that just fitted into the room. The cold december wind howled through the 6cm gap above the door. The filthy toilet and shower were across the outside bar area so if you wanted to take a shower you had to dodge the people drinking pints to use the facilities. Although we knew of quite a few people staying there at the same time who just refused to use them as they were too dirty. The kitchen was un-usable, as filthy as the toilet!.. I could not wait to leave this place which is a real shame as Paris is a fantastic place. In over three years of travelling this was truly the worst place we ever stayed. It does not deserve anybodies money.

Well, we stayed here for three days and I have a bit of advice for anyone coming. Bring earplugs unless you plan on getting drunk and passing out, which plenty of people do. Now I'm no stranger to hostels as I have been traveling for almost nine months now, and this was by far the worst. The hostel is close to the Metro which is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing should be self explanitory the curse is that your walls shake every fifteen minutes or so as the trains go by. There is no security, which is the point I wish to drive home as implimenting some would not be a problem. I have stayed in hostels that only had one key per room before, but they always required some form of identification to get it back. Here all you had to do was walk in and request a key and it was given to you. They wanted you to keep your valubles in the same place as the keys which I didn't do since I saw how easy it was to get the keys. The luggage room has no lock nor any security cammeras or lockers. The kitchen is shabby at best -- two hot plates and an oven, very few dishes and I only saw one bowl and no plates. Also if possible get a room on the top floor as I stayed there and the showers and toilets were infinitely cleaner than those that opened into the courtyard. Breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful and nice, which was redeeming. But it couldn't make up for the complete lack of security. :(

I actually read some pretty bad stuff about this hotel but was happily surprised! It's a little loud, but nothing eaplugs won't solve and although some people complain about dirty showers or toilets - it's a hostel! You can't be expecting potpourri. The staff is great, the people are really nice, the bar was a lot of fun and free internet was also a plus. The area around the hostel wasn't a party area but it was really nice, with lots of small stores. The metro is only 2 minutes away.

but as stated its a pretty cheap joint and it has a bar where there are people and there is beer - improtant elements if you want to meet people and possible score some flap. there is no longer a curfew so you can party your tits off all night elsewhere...if you know where...a pint will now cost you 3.90...toilets and showers are a joke but you're a tough traveller, right? breakfast is kinda lame but big boys don't cry, do they? so don't be scared, go there and have a good time - because you can!

This hostel rocks! Don't understand why people complain. It's great. I loved it. The staff are nice. They are great...Julie and Eric are hilarious and so helpful. I'm sorry that people go there expecting a four star hotel...it's cheap accomodation. And people who complain about lockout of the rooms during the day, what's that about?! You're in Paris, surely you're there to see things and not hang out in your hostel room. I will go back!

I have never seen a hostel that seemed annoyed to have people stay with them. Staff is sooo unpleasent. The location is great, rooms aren't that bad (bathroom/shower in the middle of courtyard not an attractive feature). Curfew sucks, but the bar is good and cheap!

paris was the last stop of our trip around europe so we thought we'd booked a decent place for our 3 nite stay..couldnt have been more wrong. we were 'greeted' by the sourest individual i have ever met. all she did was grunt at us. the room was dirty and barely able to contain its 8 beds. the toilet an shower facilities are a joke and in my opinion are never cleaned. compared to some of the bfasts included in the price at other hostels, half a baguette is less than adequate. if u really arent bothered about getting any sleep or stepping on clumps of hair on the shower room floor then this is da place for u. for those of u with reasonable expectations..DO NOT STAY HERE!!

I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights whilst going for a quick break in Paris. Experiences seem to be different for different people but I really enjoyed my stay here. The enviroment is nice - i thought the church-bell thing was pretty nice. (altho yeh it does go off EVERY hour). The fact that the hostel is part of a bar makes it really cool. Coz they generally have lock-ins every night meaning u can drink cheap booze all the time. And it really is cheap. It was 3.30 for a pint of beer. as apposed to about 8 in ya average bistro. Friendly staff, wide range of occupents, cosy feel. Yeh - do it. If you do go on my recommendation please be sure to let me know afterwards how it went for you. Oh. the breakfast doesnt exactly 'suck' like someone else said - but basically u just get a bageutte with butter/jam and coffee. thats it. still lovely tho

Ok, so this is a little late, we were in Paris in Sept of 2004, I just can't believe the hostel is as bad as the reviews. Remember a hostel is not a hotel, you get what you pay for. So here is my experience: My best friend and I stayed off and on in 3 Ducks.( total of 10 nights) We had a great time met alot of great poeple, and heard their stories of horror hostels. Ok, yes the showers could be cleaner, the room we stayed in was clean. The staff was awsome, (ok breakfast gal can be snarley) But as far as security we had no problem. We took off twice and left our bags in a room, everything was there when we returned. The metro is close, not too far from the Eiffel Tower (ok in a discription we read it said it was in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, It is a little farther than that.) The staff is really helpful and was very accomidating for us. ( we had no problem with the internet, it just takes getting used to it) I am planning on going back in Dec/Jan of this year, and can't wait to get there.

I stayed here a few nights. I didn't hang out at the hostel besides just sleeping there, but I had a good time. The bar, courtyard, good location, for the price, it's worth it. The only bad thing about it is the lockout and curfew. Either than that, worth checking out.

i stayed there twice recently. the first time i was actually satisfied with it. however, when i got there the second time, i found out that they hadn't reserved my beds. i showed the guy (who was a real jerk) my email confirmation, and all he did was offer me a free pint of beer and sent me down the street to a hotel. the hotel didn't have enough beds to accomodate me and my friend, so we had to share a bed that night and it still costed us more money than the three ducks, and didn't have free breakfast. everything else in paris was booked by then, so we had no other choice. another guy at three ducks said that we can still come for free breakfast and use the kitchen. in the morning, however, the breakfast lady said that "breakfast is only for customers." when i asked her who the manager was (several times), she refused to give me a name. the most detail i got was "it's a dutch lady who's not here." not a good sign when an employee doesn't want customers to know who the manager is. overall, if you're willing to risk dealing with shitty management, 3 ducks is your typical backpackers hostel. however, if you're looking to avoid what happened to me, go elsewhere. they even admitted to me that this happens regularly. and there is no shortage of good, legitimate youth hostels in paris.

I know that no hostel in Paris is awesome. This one is all right. I was reading the other reviews and someone said that it was dirty and then a manager replied back and said it was not dirty. Well, the manager is so wrong! I am not talking about the rooms or the bar area. I am talking about those nasty showers in the courtyard. They are so nasty! If you look up at the ceiling there are so many spider webs and dirt! I was so scared that a spider would jump on me. Umm hey, why can't you guys get that cleaned up when you lock us out from 11-5? I didn't even feel clean afterwards, felt dirty. One of the girls that worked there was kind of rude at times. I think she got annoyed because I asked to many questions, but hey that is your job! Otherwise, I wasn't in Paris to sleep the whole time, so it is a decent place to spend the night. It does get noisy at nights, but I got over that. If you want to take a shower, go to the second floor showers. Those are a bit better.

This place was ok but not great in any way. The good things are that it is right in the heart of Paris. You can walk too the Eifle Tower and the Metro is near. The staff seems friendly enough and the bed was comfortatable. On the down side if you stay in a big room you have too share one key with about 11 other people so most of the time the door too the room is left open. The showers are on the bottom floor so if your staying on the third floor this can be bad for you. We had one shower attached too our room but there was stagnant water trapped in the bottom of it. The showers are push button. The hostel has a curfew of 2am and your locked out of the room between 10 and 5 so it's kind of like living with your parents in that you have too leave during the day like going too school and then you have too be in by a certain time. Stay here if your not too high maintenance. Otherwise find another place.

I showed up on a whim at the 3Ducks in late april 2003 and was given a bed for 2 nights, not an outrageous price for travelling Europe as far as i was concerned. The staff seemed real helpful when i asked for things to see and do in the city and they recommended Mikes bike tours which showed you all of Paris that i wanted to see in 4 hours. The patrons of the place made it,I met Lots of Canadians Americans and Australians, some Spanish and Dutch too. The showers had to be the worst part of the whole place, that is the filthiest shower i have ever stood in,i am so glad i had my sandals with me,it did the trick though, even with the cold water. The breakfast lady was a true bitch and that piece of bread with jelly and coffee didnt even phase me.The Bar was overpriced but the good company made up for it if you wanted to have a good normal conversation with others in English. If you want to be a Premadonna, don't go to this place.

3 Ducks Hostel is the ghetto of all Hostels. Never mind the 'lock-out' ... or any other 'quirky' rules, they are soon forgotten as the stench of filth, and the sensation of lice/bugs/whatever makes your skin crawl. You enjoy a screeching fishwife w/a foul mouth? Drunks abound? How about missing Travel Cheques and credit cards that the "staff" doesnt want the other guests to know about?? That topped it all off!! Tossed out on yer bottom if you 'tell' any of the other guests .. You can keep 3 Ducks Hostel. No 'great' location is worth slumming like that.

If you dont like this place why are you backpacking? Hostels like the Three Ducks dont come along often. Yes there are things that they could do better like supplying every bed with pillows but lets face it the hostel is in France for God's sake! I loved my stay there which was back in September and really wish I could have stayed on longer, the people who stayed there were fantastic - yes the staff were a little arrogant but then isn't that a Parisian charecteristic? - the rooms/bathrooms were clean and the kitchen stayed open 24hrs which was ideal for the late night munichies! Basically if you dont like this place you should not be backpacking!

Stayed there two nights. This place is not as bad as my dog's kennel. I liked it though. I'll refrain from rating the staff... If you're a beauty queen, stay away from here. It is functional, that's it, it is called roughing it! The beds are the one thing that every person will hate, you can only get to sleep once the person in the bed above you is already sleeping, else forget about it, you'll get seasick. Overall, I liked the place, it served its purpose. Cheap accom. Perfect for backpacking...
