Hello backpackers, I'm just back from Valencia, and I stayed in a new (2 months old) youth hostel. It was bloody fantastic. It was clean, new, cheap (10 euro, breakfast included), and the people were very friendly. As we were sitting on the terrace late @ night, the owner gave us red wine, cheese, bacon, etc.... They were very helpfull and outstanding. One of them spoke french, the other one english, another one german, while most of the people only speak castellano (espanol) there. Only 1 - : the hostel is located in a street with dealers, drugs addicts and whores. But it didn't was dangerous at all, they were relaxed.. No one had problems with them. To go to the Hostel: from Estacion Nord (train), go to Plaza Ayunamient, then take Periodista Azarri street, then Byron de Carcer street, and at the end you have Plaza de Brujas. There at your left is located Balmes, the hostel-street. Btw, Valencia is fookin' fantastic, but you have to try to understand the spanish people, and to be good informed, and you'll have the time off your life!

At first, the hostel did not seem that bad. I had just gotten off a 4:30am bus ride to the city and spent an hour walking around the city looking for it. Alas, I had to wait until the bus lines started for the day to reach this place, which is considerably on the outskirts of town. The price listed in my Lonely Planet was off---way off. I could have saved money by just staying in a different hostel. Anyway, while the people were quite friendly who were there--we had a great party with the 100 peseta beer (50 cents)--the accomidations were rather archaic and I had about 20 misquito bites when I left. In addition, it was in late July and was bitterly hot. Lastly, I was expecting a beautiful beach on the mediterranean but was quite disappointed when I found murky water that compared to the likes of most So. Californian beaches. Anyway, my point is, don't go here unless you are extremely scraping the bottom of the hostel barrell. Stay in the city, and don't bother checking out the beach, it's not worth it.
