Awesome hostel but hard to reach

I paid 11 euros for my own room with bathroom -- awesome. It's in an old castle, so super cool environment. Behind the castle there's a beautiful view of Toledo. But the castle's on a hill, and I would not want to endure that hike w/luggage. It's bad enough without a bag. It's about a 3.50 euro taxi ride up there from the bus station/train station, which was money well spent. The reception/reservation desk does NOT speak English, but I was able to communicate well enough with my semi-basic Spanish. And the ladies at the front desk were really nice even though I certainly wasn't fluent in their language. The hostel did get a little noisy at night; lots of families stay here, and there's no carpet in the hallways to absorb the pitter patter of little feet running around. But the price for my own room, and a clean, nice room at that -- I don't know if that's typical, but you CAN NOT beat it. Plus the view behind the castle was amazing, so beautiful and peaceful at sunset. In summary: It's quite a hike to get here but well worth it!

It was well worth staying here just to say you have stayed in a castle. I found it very, very clean and the staff really helpful, but very few spoke much english. The rooms were spotless and what is really great was that the bathrooms were in our room. They had lockers, internet, laundry facilities and phones right on sight and easily accessible. When we got there too early to check in, they let us throw our backpacks in the lockers until we came back which was really nice. You can also include breakfast in your cost if you wanted to. Only downside is make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes. It is outside the main part of the city but the view is well worth it. It takes about 15 minutes and alot of uphill walking to get into the city but personally this was the coolest hostel I every stayed in and it was well worth it.

This sure sounded like a fine hostel to us but two attempts in two days to contact them by phone have both been answered by a gentleman who does not speak English and is apparently not able to find anyone there who does! For an HI hostel this is surprising. Since the hostel does not have a web site or email address that I can find and is not online-bookable you might find it hard to actually visit them.Too bad.

The hostal is placed in a castle, which makes it a little cold. There are a lot of space, it is clean and comfortable. It is placed away from the citty center, but you can reach it on foot in some minutes.

I arrived here after being on the train 24hrs (from Zurich). I was exhausted and somewhat apprehensive about this castle up a dark road. Reception was wonderful and they quickly assigned me a dorm. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dorm room only had 4 beds in it (comfy but w metal frames) . BEST of all (get this!!) Our room had it's OWN ensuite bathroom - with a sparkling clean fullsize bathtub! Heaven I tell you, heaven! The toilet was separated from the rest of the bathroom by a door and the tub was fully enclosed so roomates still had access to the sinks (there was more than one) when the bath and toilet were in use. The hilltop location offers some spectacular views of the old city (across the river on another hill).

This hostel is worth staying in simply because it's in an honest-to-God castle. The facilities are nice, but the opportunities to meet people are somewhat limited. The staff was very nice (I had just had my wallet stolen in Madrid and they were very accomodating by letting us use the phone, etc.) The location is a bit out of the way - it's across the river from Toledo and up a hill. Maybe 15 minute walk from the center of town? The remote location makes it very safe, but think about taking a taxi there after dark if you're travelling alone (Toledo streets are winding and you can get lost very easily.)
