Oly good for its location3 April 2006
I went in spring season when it wasn't crowded. The place was generally clean, but I can expect how packed and crowded it will be in summer. The mod-cons definitely cannot support the summer crowd. The prices are steep- comparable to Paris in peak season, and more expensive than Rome or Madrid- for the standard of accomodation. The biggest turn-off is BEDBUGS. My friend and I got bitten all over by bedbugs. The mattresses are filthy and crummy and I guess they won't be changing it anytime at all. So be forewarned. The location is however excellent. So unless you have some spare cash and a thick hide, look somewhere else.
Fancy location, average rooms, nice staff16 October 2005
I stayed in this hostel in September 2005. The price then was 20 euros a night for a 6 bed dorm, which we thought was a little expensive. But the big plus was the location! You are right smack in the middle of the cafe district of Ljubljana! And totally close to the castle (which resembles a conference center these days... after too much remodeling). The staff was very helpful and kept getting hit on. There was free internet that was always being used. And one of our roommates got some flea bites. But I would recommend this hostel because it really is a home base. You never have to take public transport or a taxi if you stay here.
Okay, but expensive for what you get.17 September 2005
After trying to get into the Celica, we phoned a day ahead as the website submission form was not working. After explaining that we couldnt book online and that we wouldnt be arriving until 8pm or so, we were assured there would be beds for us by what sounded like a nice man. When we showed up at 7pm the following evening we discovered that the man (the only one working reception) hadnt made our booking and while the nice lady managed to find us beds, the guy proceded to be a prick to a couple who were interested in leaving a day early. This turned into a recurring theme as he was an asshole to several other people, including myself. So if possible, avoid the guy. He is very rude and not at all helpful or welcoming. Now the hostel, it is alright, but for the money I expected a common room and perhaps a kitchen. The location is good but I have stayed in better for less elsewhere, in Europe. Unfortunately it has the market cornered and until someone starts up another hostel, choices in Ljubljana are limited.
nice persons there4 September 2005
I was there in July 2005 and I found nice, friendly persons. However there is a problem with their web-site: the images that appears doesn't belong to Alibi Hostel in Kolarjeva Str. The rooms were clean, also the sheets and the bathrooms. They have individual lockers (which I doubt that cannot be "forced" but it didn't happened to me). The biggest problem is that there is only a bathroom WITH a toilet per floor (which means that approx. 18 persons should use it in the morning or night). The Internet is free, slow and... it was virused when I was there - hope they resolved the problem :). There is no breakfast and no place to cook - but large table to eat (if you have something in your bags). Also, the building is in a nice garden. A problem could be that it's a little far from the railway station (and the taxies are expensives) and in a total opposition to the Center of the Town - and the buses circulate only till 23,00 :( However, the persons there are nice and helpful, they give you any information you want, they can find for you the cheapest taxies aso... And they answer quickly to e-mails that you send for reservations :) Be aware that you should let 20 EUROs in the 1st day as a "guarantee" - but you'll receive them back when you leave. Finally, I had a nice time in Ljubljana :)
great potential30 August 2005
We stayed in teh Alibi Hostel part of this hostel. It had only been open for a week when we stayed so there was lots still to be done (eg there was no common room yet, no internet yet etc). But I think that once finished, this will be a great hostel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I'm not sure about the glass walls looking into the bathroom though.........
