Worst Hostel we've ever stayed in.

The WORST hostel we've ever stayed in! They threw away three bottles of wine, two beers and the rest of our groceries, THEN blamed us. I've been hostelling for over twenty years and always label my food--it was the 'customer is always wrong' at this place and 'sorry there is no manager on duty' at all times of the day and night. The disposal of our food was unresolved until we filed a police report. No one seems responsible for anything here. Morning kitchen staff surf the net (hidden away from never to be seen management) while listening to death dirges on the radio at full volume. Disco lighting effect in loo with overhead flashing on and off. No light in main hallway. (All of this reported and still not dealt with-we've left) Youths climbing in and out of windows (needless to say not quietly). Bed like a brick. Orange juice tastes like food colouring added to tap water. One communal fridge smaller than our home one for use by entire hostel. One broken toaster and one that was working if you are willing to wait fifteen minutes for a piece of toast. AND for all this we paid

I have stayed in many hotels, but this was my first stay in a hostel. Check-in consisted of being grunted at by the man behind the desk, told which room we were in(but given the wrong floor) and there was no key as one of the other guests had it. We then had to carry our bags around the temple bar area. Not a place I will ever return to

I expect hostels to be basic but clean. I have stayed in quite a few - but my luck seemed to run out when I arrived in Ashfield house. If there is internet access (and there may well be), I did not find it - what looks like a computer in the photo on the web site and other places is a quiz machine. I knew the other three people in my quad room, which was lucky. The toilet door didn't lock and you could hear all 'sounds' from the en-suit (if you could call it that). The shower was so small that I found it difficult to wash my hair - larger people may experience great difficulties. The room was dirty, and our view was of a low roof in the hostel. On the roof were cigarette ends and other rubbish - and one half eaten mouldy doughnut. The beds were old and squeaked. The bedding was worn and full of holes. Some had hairs on. The mattresses were stained - I'll not go into what I think the stains were. On the plus side security is very good and the location can not be beaten.

I was only in Dublin for one night, but I found Ashfield House did the job. My room was clean and the location was great. Staff were friendly enough. No complaints.

Great facilities and location!!

Weve stayed in lots of hostels, especially in cities, that are over other businesses and have only bedrooms/dorms, no space to just relax. When your staying in dorms, this means if youre not out and about, your either lying in bed or paying to sit somewhere (caf/pub). Ashfield House has a huge ground floor with different areas, even sofas and a pool table (dont ask who won!). Also all of the rooms have bathrooms ensuite, which is pretty good for a hostel. We stayed here on our way back also and both times found it great for the usual things youd want location (2 mins from Temple Bar), comfy beds (seriously!), very clean and new, and decent service. Apparently they get very busy at weekends so its a good idea to book ahead.

This place was fly infested. Before we went to sleep the first night we spent half an hour killing around 15 flys. The shower was hot but the bathroom had some drainage problems. Despite being in a great location right near Temple Bar and Trinity College, I would not stay here again. Also, they raise their prices considerably on the weekends.

I checked in here 11/9 2001, and my first impression was good. It is spacious, clean, well located and breakfast is included in the 16. However, I checked out after only one day because: THE SHOWERS ARE COLD!!! (even early in the mornig). The breakfast is a joke, I've had worse but... The staff are grumpy and tell you as little as they possibly can. The elevators don't work well so pray for a bed on the lower flooors. And finally, the place is as boring as a brick!
