fantastic location3 January 2007
clean, great location, free internet
While the atmosphere at the hostel leaves something to be desired, it's clean and the location can't be beat. It's in walking distance from the train and lots of major sites. The street is a little sketchy, with a few strip clubs along the way, but I never felt unsafe. The front door of the hostel is locked, and visitors must be buzzed in. The employees are friendly and helpful, and even went out of their way to let me know I'd left something in the room. Free internet and clean bathrooms, too!
Look elsewhere26 May 2004
Okay first off, it takes alot to put me off a place. I never expect too much and find that the people you meet overshadow the hostel itself. With that being said, I was very disappointed with the Atlas. Among other things, the cleaning woman woke us up every morning at 8:00 making enough noise to wake the dead, there was never anything but ice cold showers, and the location is great if you like being on the same street as two busy strip clubs. This hostel never redeemed itself and half our room left to find other digs on the same day we did. With so many great places to stay in Prague, why deal with the Atlas.
OK if you don't mind stairs16 April 2004
I stayed in a double room at the Atlas, which was relatively clean and comfortable. Be prepared to climb some stairs, however, as some of the rooms are on the fifth floor... not much fun after a long day walking around the city. My only real complaint is that the common room (with free internet) closes at 8pm. Oh, and one of the rooms is only accessible by walking through the common bathroom, so there was a lot of yelling back and forth when someone was in the bathroom and someone else needed to leave the room on the other side. Not fun in the wee hours.
Nice location thats about it26 March 2003
So the location was great right near the main square... BUT besides that let me tell you what others don't tell you... Full kitchen is only available on the 5th floor.. you have to walk all the way up the stairs, you don't get access to the common area after 20.00h unless there are people there, the free internet is slow 120mhz computer, better to go pay somewhere. The water wasn't always hot, it was usually scolding or cold, take your pick. Beds were ok... the upstairs rooms were really nice, but 5 flights of stairs come on, so you really don't get the chance to meet as many people because people don't hang out in the common room because they don't want to come in and then walk up 5 flights then come down 5 flights to use it.. so I'd say stay here if you want a place near the city to stay, but as for meeting people etc I'd go somewhere else
it carries the Charles Atlas seal of approval23 August 2002
Sometimes I almost feel bad for recommending a place, in case it changes. In the case of Atlas, I love it because its never full and the upstairs dorm is just like a giant studio appartment, with beds scattered everywhere and a beautifully tiny kitchen, and its just 6 steep flights of stairs above vaclavske namesti down a sidestreet. The downstairs dorm? Its, well, I guess 'intimate' is how most estate agents would describe it, although it is much nearer the TV & free internet. I love Atlas. I go there every time I'm in Prague...
