I stayed here for 7 months and have no complaints about Bondi Backpackers. It's seconds away from the beach and bars, has nice staff, and is a fun place to go.

Although this hostel is in a great location, (across form Bondi Beach), i would not recommend it to anyone. The staff just seem like they really dont want to be there and dont want to help either. The closing time for the kitchen was midnight but one member of staff decided it was whenever he felt like it and very rudely told everyone to leave before 11.30. When i asked for a comments book before i left i was handed a tiny piece of paper. Also when I was checking out of the hostel the member of staff continued to talk to a friend on the phone at the same time. Overall this has been the worst hostel i have stayed in since i have came to australia 9 months ago.

What can i say? I read the reviews of this place on here and got scared. 2 days later I arrived in Sydney and went straight to the Biltmore. I was planning to stay a week. I ended up staying 2 months. I met people who i stayed with for the next 10 months of my travles. We worked, lived and travelled all of australia together and it was all because of the biltmore. When u look at the photos on the official Biltmore on bondi site, the room with english flag in the window was my friends. I lived in the room above him. Dont waste ur time with the negative reviews of this place. I had the time of my life and met some amazing people I will be friends with forever because of that place. I hope Mie Lynn still works there. She was awesome!!! Tell her I say hello is she's still there. Big Up Biltmore

Best location at Bondi - good facilities

We stayed for eleven nights at Biltmore and enjoyed our time there. We had a double room and found it very practical to have our own little fridge. The kitchen was new and clean, you would always meet other travellers here for a chat. We enjoyed the included breakfast cereals in the morning and we often used the kitchen equipment to cook our own food in the evenings. Washing machines and dryers are also a very convenient feature. In contrast to other reviews, we did not find the staff to be particularily unfriendly, they would always help us, when we had a question. The best thing about Biltmore though is its fantastic location, just walk out the door and you're right at Bondi Beach. After all, this is a backpackers - and not a five-star hotel. The house may be a little old and sometimes the guys in the next room may be loud and drunk - but it's cheap, has an excellent location and we recommend it.

STAY AWAY

The only good thing about this hostel is the location! The best advice I can give is STAY AWAY!! Unless you like bed bugs that is.... and to talk to some of the rudest, most unfriendly and unhelpful staff I have ever come across. The morning I arrived I was greeted by a very unfriendly guy, which didn't give off a good impression to start. From then on, there were very few staff who I ever even saw smile (one exception is a girl on the front desk who was always very friendly and helpful! Apart from her, I would think that the staff had to undergo an endurance test proving that they could not be in any way friendly, under any circumstances.) From the time I arrived there, I was getting bitten, but it took me a few days to realise I wasn't being bitten by mosquitoes, but by bed bugs - the mattresses were infested! After complaining to the guy on duty, he handed us a spray can and said we could spray the mattresses, but there was no offer of moving room until the next day! Obviously I insisted on moving room immediately - it was too late to move hostel, otherewise I would have been out of there! The next day, we realised that the beds in the new room were also infested, as was another room where other guests were staying. I was told that these things happen and the staff seemed pretty non-plussed. From their reactions and the size of the bed bugs, this is obviously an ongoing problem. The staff didn't want to know anything about it, and were both very rude and unfriendly. The night we discovered the bed bugs, the guy on duty was extremely rude - I cannot believe that these people are in the hospitality business. I was also told by another girl that she found dead cockroaches in the cutlery drawer. Needless to say, I avoided using their kitchen facilities too!

I stayed at Biltmore for one week at the nd of March, and my stay here was truly enjoyable. The hostel is located in the best (in my opinion) location in sydney, and was clean, quiet, and convenient. The fridge in all the rooms is a GREAT plus, helps backpackers save some money by not eating out at expensive cafes for every meal. Directly across from a major bus stop that heads into the city, and more importantly from the beautiful Bondi Beach. Great time, would go back again!

Well, what can I say. I can only imagine the positive reviews of the Blitmore were from the staff. This place is a discrace. I'll give you a quick run down of why: Before we even entered the room, it was obvious our door, like so many others had been hacked away at by theives. You could easily open the door by shoving a key in the hole that had been carved out of the wood. Upon entering the room, I was hit by the smell of fish, urine and something I wasn't too sure of. (Later we discovered the fish part came from the uncleaned fridge) The beds were a poorly put together steal cage, with stained, holey matresses. We had only a sheet to sleep on, but the temperature on the 3rd floor was near unbareable anyhow. The sink was stained brown, with the hot tap not working, the other dripping all night. The view from the window was of a brick wall covered in bird crap about 60cm from the broken perspex window. Outside the room things were not that different. The kitchen was very small and basic. The TV room could fit about 4 people. The worst part of it all was the manager. She was rude and seemed only interested in the taking of the money. Unfortunatly my travel buddy and I had parted with AUS 400$ for 1 weeks worth of rent before we noticed there was no chance of a refund. You get the idea. Stay away. Stay very clear of the Blitmore.

I stayed here 6 months and the place was kinda rough, but hey, it's the only place right on the beach. I came back to stay a week ago on my way out of Oz and I hardly recognised the place. The new owners had the place crawling with every imaginable tradesman fixing the place up. I had to leave before I could see the final results... and just when summer was starting... My tip - pay the extra couple of bucks for the rooms with the view of the beach. A pair of binoculars could be useful also - hehe.

My friend and I arrived in Sydney alone, nervous but excited. We booked our room at Biltmore a month before and they assured us there would be free bedding, free drinks on the first night and good rooms. We were shocked when we arrived as there was no bedding available, so we had to go out looking for a sheet and pillow to buy at 6.30pm when we should have been looking around. Then when we took a look at the room, the sink was broken, window wouldn't close and the room stank of old clothes, as well as having a view of a brick wall. There was also no word of the drinks we were promised. I decided not to spend the night there, and lost our deposit and a weeks rent when we were there for only an hour. I wouldn't go back if you paid me, sorry.

Sure it is on the beach. This does not even begin to make up for the complete filth of the hostel. The rooms are disgusting and we had to go to reception FOUR times to get one that had a working lightbulb. We stayed one night then went to a hotel. I was scared to sleep on the bed because it was so dirty. Don't stay here! If you want to stay on Bondi, I saw a hotel down the road with $50 double rooms.

If you want the closest hostel to Bondi Beach then this is the place to stay. However you wonder when the carpets were last hoovered and the "lockers in the hall" are non-existent. The free breakfast is cereal and tea/coffee or you can buy cheap cooked breakfast next door. The fridge was ancient and somewhat decaying, the room had no curtains, and the whole place could do with a good clean up! Would stay there again but only for its location.
