Dear God, why did I stay there two nights?

I can only speak for the male dorm which was basically a warehouse with over 70 beds crammed into it. Cleanliness-wise it was below average, but nothing to scream about. The beds were about as cheap as they come. Whenever the person above me would climb up the thing would creak and shake so badly I almost thought the entire thing would collapse. The showers were the worst. Communal/group/gym/prison, however you want to describe it the result is the same. No privacy whatsoever. The toliets were disgusting. Perhaps slightly better than a highway reststop or delapidated fairground... but only slightly. At over 20 euro (with the exchange rate) it was far too expensive for what was offered. Sheets and breakfast cost extra. The internet was free but there was only one computer so good luck trying to get on. If you decide to go to Copenhagen (and to be honest, you should skip it), avoid this hostel.

This is the sort of hostel you want if your backpacking across Europe, not the cleanest, not the cheapest, big cramped rooms, uncomfortable beds, no private showers, but it's got atmoshpere. I like it very much and its also situatied in Copanhagen, which to all the citys I have been to so far, Copanhagen has by far the most attractive females I've ever seen. If any Danish beauty is reading this (or any beauty, female only) feel free to email.

I DID sleep on the couch in the lounge!

Someone else mentioned in their review that they would've rather slept on the couch in the lounge...I speak from experience when I say they really should have. By the time I got to Denmark no amount of dirt could scare me. However, I had a room full of fat old guys who would not stop snoring despite the plethora of laundry I threw at them so I moved to the couch in the lounge (the one near the giant dorm room) and slept like a baby. The staff was great, I was opearting the cash and drinking free beer by the third night despite the fact they didn't know my last name. It does seem odd in retrospect but hey it's Copenhagen, everyone's high so it works. 1 Star for the hostel 2 Stars for the staff 3 Stars for that couch, how I miss thee.

I stayed here in June 2002. This is more like an army camp than a youth hostel. I stayed in a room with about 35 beds, though my friend was in a room with over 60 beds! The larger room resembles an army camp or immigration centre. As you can imagine, it is hard to sleep when there are so many people in 1 room. I would never stay here again and I'd not recommend it to anyone! Try to avoid it.... I had no choice as this was the only hostel with space after the Roskilde music festival.

The thing that stands out about this hostel is the location. Centrally located, not too far of a walk from the train station, and everything you would want to see. It has a nice garden in the front with picnic tables, and the hostel itself is quite large. There seemed to be two LARGE rooms with about 20+ bund beds in them. The rooms smelled like shit (well, it didn't smell like flowers), and it was way hot in there as I was there in Mid July and the windows were closed. If I wasn't as tired as I was when I was there one particular night, I would have slept outside. Overall, good hostel, worth checking out.

As a frequent visitor to Copenhagen, I can honestly say that the city has a dire selection of hostels to choose from. The centrally located ones are awful, while the nice ones are too far out. This one is by no means perfect, but its big plus point is its central location, near the Central Railway station (Hovedbanegaarden). The hostel is set up in a local youth club during the summer. There are a few 15-bed dorms, but I ended up in the 62-bed (!) one, which was essentially a basketball court covered in bunk beds. The beds were very squeaky. There are no lockers, but I left my things in a locker at the train station nearby. I found the staff I dealt with to be very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very laid back - and you need to be too in order to have any hope of enjoying your stay! The bathroom facilities reflect the fact that they are intended for use by people who have just played basketball or the like: communal showers etc. There is a nice garden area out the front. The area (Istedgade) may seem a little off putting at first, as it is lined with sex shops, but it is not seedy and is perfectly safe to walk around at night. Until a youth hostel a city as wonderful as Copenhagen deserves appears on the scene, I would stay here again. It's an experience if nothing else!

The price is fairly expensive for what you get, but the location is good. If the beds didn't squeak so much, and there were less beds per room it might be nicer. The communal showers weren't the best, but the place was fairly clean, the breakfast was resonable and the lawn outside a great place to relax and chat.

when we checked into the hostel we were welcomed by a friendly staff and a deceptively nice reception and lounge area.... then we walked up to our room. You could almost see the bed bugs and fleas jumping from the shitty run down beds. There were 30 something beds in the room... all of which were about to break... there was no pillow and the eh, 'blanket' was more like furr balls that the dog caughed up. The door to the room didn't close, and there were no lockers to put any of our things... basically anyone could walk in off the street (of a pretty dodgy area) and pick up your bag. I didn't dare look at the bathrooms.... we just left our bags there for an hour while we found somewhere else to stay. Credit to the staff for being really nice.... they even refunded our money when we told them we were leaving! Seriously I would have rathered slept on the couch in the lounge... it looked much more inviting than the beds. Our advice is: JUST DON'T STAY THERE.

Expensive and nasty, possibly the worst hostel I have ever stayed in! To start off the place was very dingy and unclean and felt like some sort of homeless hostel. The staff were not exactly helpful. When I asked the guy at reception for directions, he acted as if it was an inconvenience for him. The facilities were at a very low standard, rooms with too many people, beds that squeak even when you breath and the showers were hot but not very private. Not forgetting the irritating tannoy calls in the morning from reception to remind you about brekfast, felt like some sort of army boot camp. The only plus point about this hostel is it's location, only about a five minute walk from the train station. Well worth avoiding this place if you can, but if you do end up staying here just look at it as part of the hostel experience. That's what I've done!!

Copenhaven itself is a tad pricey, but a big aise dorm bed cost us some 20 something Euros. The staff wasn't particularly nice or otherwise, and we really had little interaction with them at all. Showers were community so you really got to know your neighbor, but they were warm and reasonably strong so it was all good. The beds were squeaky as hell, though I never have trouble sleeping myself, and there's no real place to stash your crap either. Didn't wanna pay extra for the breakfast and don't regret that. Met some nice backpackers, but I doubt that's an plus you can atribute to the hostel itself. Overall it wouldn't be bad for 15 or 16 Euros, but for 20 or 21 Euros, I'd go elsewhere.

Run-down beds in 15-bed-dorms, showers looking like a horror-movie-set. But: Its really kind of cool, if you like some kind of thrashy atmosphere. It perfectly fits into Copenhagens alternative scene. Theres music, you meet great people and anyway - its one of the cheapest places to stay in Denmarks capital

This hostel has a good location and a very friendly staff. The main room is also really cool and the yard out front is another good hang out spot. The rooms are less impressive. They are huge, the beds creak with every breath, and they don't give you sheets or even a pillow (what a bummer). The showers are sketch-city, but you can go a few days without one, right? You decide. Definitely check out Sleep In Heaven, though this is a reasonable option if they're booked (which they will be). This hotel is not too bad, but if you've been staying in all those hip, modern hostels around the rest of Western Europe you may be a little disappointed. It is an excellent place to meet friends, though.

Great Location, Friendly Staff

A quick walk from the Train Station and Tivoli Gardens. Optional breakfast of corn flakes, granola, bread, jam, coffee, milk, OJ, etc. Yes, a BBQ. Communual showers warning for the modest Americans out there. Rooms are cleaned daily 10am-12noon, but beds are exceptionally creaky, unless if you are a heavy sleeper (like me), and some rooms are very large. Why a 4, then? PEOPLE. Guests hung out in common areas and in courtyard (see pics on website). Staff was extremely friendly, and their reception guy made our stay a favorite one. (what a cutie!)

This is a great hostel right in the centre of Copenhagen. The rooms are clean and there are lockers provided. The reception is also a bar. There is an outside courtyard with BBQ's which are free to use.
