The most disgusting place i have ever been

this hostel is the worst place i have ever, and imagine could ever stay. there is absolutely no security- anyone tom dick or harry could walk in through the doors, the food served was uncooked and revolting. the rooms were cheap and nasty, heavily vandalised and sometimes dangerous- loose shelves and metal above the beds. the hygene was a disgrace. the shower and bathroom looked like the have never been cleaned- dirt, mildew and mould cover the walls and ceilings and a distinct smell of vomit and urine could be smelled in all parts of the hostel. i cannot emphasise enough that nobody should stay here

Great Hostel but bring Mosquito Repellent

My two sons and I spent 3 nights at this hostel from 01/08/03-04/08/03 and we really enjoyed it. Word of warning though, make sure you bring mosquito repellent and use it. We had to keep the terrace doors and window open because of the heat wave and as a result we were eaten alive by mosquitos. My 10 year old had over 64 bites! There is a friendly pharmacy down the street that sells repellent and cream to treat the bites. We had a very large room with two single beds and one bunk bed for the three of us. The bathroom was in the room and had a nice shower, sink, and toilet. There was a second sink outside the bathroom. Each room had a table and a couple of chairs. The hostel has several buildings in a park-like setting located in a residential area about 10-20 minutes walk from town. Make sure that you keep on the sidewalk as there is a bike lane that runs between the sidewalk and the road. People ride bikes, mopeds, and even motorcycles in this lane so beware. Breakfast was comparable to other hostels but don't arrive close to the end of the breakfast period or you will be chastised by the cranky woman who works in the kitchen. You could have bread, cereal, cheese, tea, coffee, and orange juice. We found the staff and other hostellers to be friendly and inviting. My two sons played Magic cards with two young men from Mexico until the wee hours of the night in the large common room. The children enjoyed the yard for playing soccer and the outdoor ping pong table. I found the hostel to be quite safe and I did not feel afraid arriving back from the center of town around midnight. The staff will give you a code to open the gate at night which is locked at 11:00pm. There is a laundromat just down the street that stays open till 10:00 pm. There are several restaurants very close to the hostel and a small market right outside the gate that has a limited but good selection of items. Calling cards are available at the market. Brugge is a fairy tale city that we enjoyed very much and this hostel was a great place for exploring the city. Don't miss a visit to the best preserved Medieval city in Europe.

This hostel deserve a good review for "Traumatised from England" had exagerate a bit and I want to tell them that what hapened could happened anywhere even in there own city in England. I was a bit anxious going there. I stayed for 2 nights in middle of June in a 3 bedded room. The room was very nice with 3 single beds (no bunk bed) with a personnal light for each one, a complete bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) and an extra sink in the room also a closet with angers but no lockers in the room. I have to say that after reading the review of "Traumatised from England" the first thing I check in the room is the lock on the french window, but nothing happened and I found Bruges a wonderful city. The hostel is not that far from the city and I came back around midnight and didn't felt in danger in any way, I even went to a pay phone about 3 blocks away from the hostel at night. On another side my friend who was in a boys room woke up in the morning after the first night and he had this rash on his arms and his back (looked like there was thousand of mosquitos who bite him) it was worst after 2 days but for me nothing happened and I would surely recommended this hostel. The people working in the hostel are nice and helpful. If I go back to Bruges I surely will go back to this hostel.

Traumatised
Literally had the worst experience of my life here.

Due to the lack of security and ease any stranger could yank open the french windows in rooms on the ground floor, my friend and I had our private room broken in to in broad day light and were flashed by a masterbating pervert. This was the most terrifying experience of my life as we had both been asleep 3 minutes before this happened. The building the room was in was away from reception and not enough precautions had been taken for protection of guests. The breakfast was also rather inadequate. Although the fact that the hostel includes a bar and tv room, the bar staff are a little forward with young female travellers and take flirting a little too far. The beer's cheap though. The hostel is quite near to the town centre but is too hidden away behind houses to feel safe. The roads are also dangerous due not only to cars and the apparent inexistance of the Belgian equivalent to a driving test but the bikes everyone else seems to want to ram in to you with. My suggestion is that you don't stay in this hostel. Better yet, don't visit Bruges or anywhere in this God-awful country.

We were pleased when we arrived, 2 girls alone staying in 2 bed room. We were not pleased however when a flasher began masturbating outside our french window. though it was locked and we had not touched it throughout our stay, he was able to simply pull open the door, and come into the room, still masturbating. We were terrified, and it ruined our entire trip. On informing reception, they didn't seem at all surprised, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened all the time. it certainly will now, now that the pervert knows how to get in. Reception were unhelpful and uncaring. Though they said they'd inform the police, I think it is extremely unlikely that they did. on reading another person's comment that someone 'has a master key' i think that this lack of responsibility, towards young people, single girls, travelling on their own is absolutely disgraceful and simply beggars belief. my advice would be to everyone, but particularly girls on their own to avoid this hostel. though cleanliness was good, it cannot compensate for this very real danger posed by indifferent staff and bad security.

Stayed in Brugge in January at Europa and it was great experience. I will say that the people where nice but not all together out going. The room was really clean and the beds where nice. But there was a problem with septic system while I was there and it smelled horrible. We had to sleep with our balcony door open! I would suggest this hostel. The location was fine due to the fact Brugge is not very large and you can walk everywhere you need to go.

I loved this hostel. Rooms were spotless and modern. Bathrooms were clean and shower was really nice. Beds were comfortable and had personal reading lights. Area was quiet, staff was friendly and breakfast was ample. They also have their own bar and a TV lounge. I give it 4 stars rather than 5 only because its location is not ideal. Hostel is located a good 20 minute walk from the center of town. Nonetheless, I was very satisfied with my experience here and would recommend it to anyone headed to Brugge.

significant lack of security

the price was good, the shower & toilet facilities were also of an acceptable standard. however, my otherwise enjoyable stay at this hostel was severly tainted by the fact that someone was able to come into my locked room at night, rummage through my belongings and steal a large amount of money from me. once the staff were notified, i was informed that: "this has happened before, we think someone has a master-key to all the rooms". there were also no lockers available at this hostel. i would not stay here again.

This Hostel was the best yet! It was spotlessly clean, had excellent showers and toilet facilities, and provided clean sheets and pillowcases. Breakfast was included in the really cheap price as well. The staff are very friendly and helpfull, and the Hostel is about a 10 minute walking distance from the town. Definately recommended, and going there again soon!
