My girlfriend and I stayed at the Archi Rossi for two nights, and it was the best place we stayed at for our trip, and I researched all of the best hostels to stay at. We payed 49.50 euro for a double room, which had an ensuite bathroom, a huge bed, a computer with internet and a satellite tv. We also had a view of the Duomo out of our window. I have to say that we actually stayed at the building next to the Hostel Archi Rossi, called Terranza Faenza, but that is still run by Archi Rossi. The room was spotless and cleaned again the 2nd day while we were gone. We had free breakfast in the morning which was pretty decent for a free breakfast, and we also could have had a free pasta dinner but we decided to eat out. The staff were very nice and they also had a free walking tour that left the hostel at around 10:00 each morning. The hostel is one street away from the train station. Florence is fairly small so everything is within 10 or 15 minutes walking. All in all I would definately stay here again.

I stayed here in February with a friend just for 1 night. We arrived without a booking but were given space in a 3 bedded, en suite room which was lovely and it had a door out to the terrace/garden. The staff were helpful and we used the free internet to book our next adventure! Florence is a beautiful city and this hostel is in easy walking distance of everything. The breakfast was included in the price, the system for ordering and getting it was very bizarre and the food was a bit weird too. The omlette was BRIGHT yellow and the cappuccino was an insult to this hostel being in Italy. However overall we had a lovely stay and I would recommend this place.

An excellent hostel that is only a few minutes from the station. Stayed there in 2001 as well as this year. Both times found the place to be great. A close walk to all of the amazing sights (Duomo, Accademia, Boboli Gardens). Felt very safe walking the area alone at night, ladies or single travellers shouldn't feel uncomfortable here. There's a great outdoor terrace, common room with TV, outdoor patio area. A nice breakfast was included as well. The staff were very helpful. We walked in with no reservation, they got us to wait a few minutes, juggled the books, and got us in no problem. Don't worry about the few who complain about the place, it's clean and comfortable. Remember, you're paying $25 a night for a hostel, not for the Ritz-Carlton !

I can not think of one bad thing to say about this place, I stayed at Archi Rossi for 8 nights in October 2005, I paid a little extra to stay in a room on my own as I was travelling on my own. It was well worth it for the week, the room was huge and had a big wardrobe and your own sink. I saw the shared rooms and they looked large also and well maintained. The breakfast is fantastic, lots to choose from and even a cappucino if you so desire! The hostel has a great atmosphere and is a good place to meet other travellers as it has lots of communal areas. The bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned everyday as is the whole hostel. The internet is free...if you've travelled around Europe you'll recognise this as a major! Yes you have to cue, but come on! FREE. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful and I found the hostel to have the best security of any I've stayed in. The location is very central, five minutes walk to the Duomo and literally everywhere in Florence city is within walking distance. I highly recommend Archie rossi & I will be back to stay again.

The hostel is very close from the station which is a big bonus for travellers with heavy luggage. Some of the walls were painted by local art students and it perfectly fits with your expectations to Florence. However, all the other walls were infested with meaningless signature graffiti and the hostel overall was not clean. The sheets and rooms smellt of some strange detergent they use. Except for the great breakfast you get, there wasn't a thing that impressed me. I didn't feel very comfortable in this hostel, but hey, you're anyway busy being out there making a queue to the famous galleries.

Oh my god was this place hot, I stayed here for one night, it was supposed to be 3 but there was no way i could handle the heat! I was in a 4 bed dorm, it was tiny and the people in my room were in bed early and i was on top bunk so had to creep up a ladder when i came in, it was horrible, it was huge and very impersonal aswell i felt, maybe i expect too much but it put me off hostels, i now stay in single rooms where possible!

This hostel is close to the train station, it's clean and they have four computers with free internet!!!! The breakfast is really good and there is a beautiful patio/garden in the back for relaxing and getting away from the hoards of tourists that descend upon florence in the summer. I also liked how they've decorated the inside of the hostel. Each dorm has a toilet, shower and lockers and tons of space. Two of the guys who worked at the front desk were slightly creepy but harmless. I would definitely stay here again.

I found the space to be very nice and quite affordable for the services. I was in a 10 bed room where they could have fit 20 more (it actually felt like the space was a little wasted). Large lockers with hangers and shelves, comfortable beds, large bathrooms. 4 internet stations and very accomodating staff. Nice outside porch area and fabulous breakfast (your choice of french toast, omlette, eggs, with bacon and toast, and milk, juice, coffee, or cappuchino). Huge television with plenty of movies to watch. Payphones in the building. Around the corner from the train station, and close to all attractions, as Florence is rather small. And you can book ahead at http://www.hostelarchirossi.com.

Or excellently adequate. I'm not sure, English isn't my native language anyway. Look, this place could be perfect if it weren't for some of these little annoying things: 1. The prices mentioned above are not accurate anymore. Expect to pay up to 25 a night, especially if their cheapest rooms are full. 2. Socialization is hard: The only real common area is the breakfast room, which is dark and cold, and the TV is usually on and quite loud. I made new friends in the laundry room. 3. There was some construction going on on their 3rd floor, and the whole place tended to be quite loud when I was there during daytime. If you care, call ahead and ask. 4. It's VERY popular, mostly among Americans but also among others. Definitely book in advance between April and October. However: 1. Internet access was completely free and absolutely unlimited. 2. Breakfast was better than the standard bread roll and jam. 3. The beds are comfortable and the whole place is immaculate. 4. Proximity to the train station makes this place ideal for sightseeing.

I stayed there for 3 nights a few weeks ago and could not fault it. As a start, it's close to Firenze SMN. The staff were quite reasonable to deal with. My room (shared with only 5 other girls - all very nice) was very clean, and the locker for each guest was big enough even for my rather large rucksack. For an extra euro per night, we even got ensuite facilities (bathroom in our own room), which was a big bonus to me. Hot shower was fantastic (compared to Alessandro Palace in Rome, for example), although the absence of shower curtain did mean the entire bathroom floor got extremely wet after each shower. We never had any real plumbing problem with the toilet, and I don't remember it being noisy at night at all. I was always out during the daytime lock out and always in bed during the curfew, so these things, which may annoy some, did not affect me in any way. Free internet was also very handy - and if you don't have anyone waiting behind you (or if you're extremely thick-skinned, or selfish), you could even stretch your free-time beyond 30 minutes. The hot breakfast (9 choices, I think) was excellent by hostel standards. If you're up early enough, you'll even find pieces of cake and garlic bread served on the table and you can take as much as you like while it lasts.

firstly, as other people have said, if you want to stay at this hostel, you HAVE to go early to do so, otherwise they get booked, especially in high season. Whoever said you can book ahead is lying UNLESS you have already booked your room for the night and want to book the next, then i think you can book ahead, but even then i'm not 100% sure. I can understand how some people find the staff cold, i personally only experienced maybe one person who was that way. The others were really, really nice though. Two of them even offered us a vespa ride into the city. The free internet is a huge bonus, but there usually is a decent line for it. The free breakfasts were also pretty decent, but i wasn't always awake for them. Lockouts are always annoying, but this one wasn't too bad, only a few hours i think. We stayed in a 4 bedded room, which had a big closet-esque-thing that you could easily but yer bags in and could lock safely. The rooms were pretty clean, and the bathrooms were decent, but one of them flooded b/c it was clogged (while i was taking a shower), and it was really, really gross. This place has a light, young atmosphere. It was nice to take some drinks and go on the terrace and people were approachable and friendly and it had a nice vibe to it. The location is on a cute street, close to the train station, but man was it loudddd. I can sleep through anything though, but it gets really hot in the summer and when you have those windows open, you basically go deaf. But it was close to musuems and the bus station and cute places to eat, so very convenient. There is also a curfew of 2am, which isn't bad at all considering there isn't tons going on in Florence at 2am anyway.

This place was good. Here's a tip for people who want to stay here: get here early in the morning, especially in high season. They don't accept reservations, and it gets full very quickly, especially during high season. The best thing about this hostel was the garden out back - an absolutely delightful place to sit and chat over a beer or two. The facilities were quite good. I think there were in-rooms bathrooms, which was a plus. The free internet is definitely a bonus, even if it can be a rather lengthy line as times. Also, the hostel organized pub crawls and dinner nights while I was there, which was a great way to meet other travellers because the atmosphere at the hostel itself I found was not very social. And I haven't even mentioned location yet: it minutes from the train station and probably 10 minutes max from the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. A good choice for budget travellers in Florence.

Maybe thats because its the most expensive hostel Ive stayed in :) But you really do get what you pay for. I stayed in one of the top price rooms, mainly due to the fact that I arrived just before easter without a reservation, but this place doesnt take reservations so it worked for me, I just re-booked my room when I got breakfast each morning. I did arrive before 9am the first day though. The room was very nice, a 4 bed with ensuite toilet and shower (very good), and the sheets and breakfast are included in the price. The breakfast is fantastic, you get a choice of 9 different options (3 of which are cooked, including bacon & egg on toast or cheese omlette on toast, really good even if the portions are a bit small) and a choice of drink (of which the hot chocolate is great). The free internet for 30 minutes is a bonus, though you often have to wait, and the common room is ok (it doubles as a dinning area so isnt that comfy). There is a tv there though with a selection of videos. The lack of kitchen is a downer ( dont recommend the micro-meals!), but there are some good take aways nearby, head down via Faenza, turn left onto via Nazionale and 3 blocks will bring you to a cheap chinese on the corner with via Guelfa, take a right there and 3 blocks again brings you to an excellent italian takeaway (on via de Ginori). If the weather is good you can also enjoy the garden, which is very pleasant. And when you go dont forget to write on the walls (if you can find any space amongst the brilliant paintings and other traveller comments). There are usually loads of friendly people too, I met americans, canadians, aussies, french, italian and russians who were all very friendly! So my advice is to go and enjoy the atmosphere of Florence and the Archi Rossi.

You'd think that you could save money because this hostel is centrally located, but actually, NO. I've been to Florence three times and the last time, the two hostels where I used to stay were full so I tried this one. Unlike the other hostels, there was no kitchen, so you could not really save more. The staff was horrible which ruined my stay in Florence, the two toilets in the floor were locked so I had to use the one downstairs, the food in the vending machine (3.50 euros at least) was yucky. If you could plan your trip well, you can find other hostels with kitchen, a helpful staff, beds and linens that are as nice or even better, and a less crowded, more peaceful place to feel the ambience of the beautiful city. I really had a terrible stay in this hostel, so spare yourself.

Ideally located close to the train station and the centre of the city. Very clean, friendly, en-suite dorms, free internet, good hearty breakfast and great paintings on the walls. Everyone who has stayed or stay there are allowed to write, paint, draw on the walls of the corridors, to leave a little of themselves there forever, a nice touch. You cant really ask for a nicer hostel. Absolutely ideal...altough it can get busy, so book ahead.

Archi Rossi was not a bad hostel for its price and location but the staff was very unfriendly, arrogant and unhelpful especially this blond guy who seemed irritated everytime someone tried to ask for help even if he was the only person in the counter. He didn't want to be disturbed while watching basketball, football or a comedy show during his time of work. But the lady was nice, though.

I read the reviews here and felt very confident to check in at this hostel. I had to catch a very early train from Rome to make sure I would be able to get a bed. When I checked in, front desk staff was friendly (of course they were Italians). I dropped off luggage and went for sight seeing. When I came back to get room assigned in the late afternoon, there was this French guy working at the front desk. He was very rude. He put me in a room which was outside the main buildings and was EXTREMELY cold. I went back and asked him if there was any other bed available at another room. He said no! He told me that heater wouldn't be on until 7:00PM. I had to stay in TV room to keep warm. I went back to the room after 7:00PM, it was still freezing cold. I went back to the front desk, this French jerk just shouted, "if you don't like here, just leave tomorrow morning!" What an asshole! Next morning, I saw a big hole (left from construction) next to the radiator, venting the room to outside air directly! I talked to people at front desk the next morning. They switched me to another room for the 2nd night. All the Italian staffs working there were very nice and personal. I didn't and still don't understand why they bothered to hire that rude French jerk... :( I think I had my expectation set too high because of the review I read here prior to my trip and because of my very positive experience at a hostel in Rome. Overall this hostel is ok to stay. I hope they won't put anyone in that room outside the building anymore. I caught cold while staying there. It made the rest of my visit in Italy miserable.

This place was in a great location, close to both the train station and a lot of the major sights. The bedrooms were clean and spacious and free internet is a major plus. There was however no kitchen and some of the staff were indifferent. I will stay there again though, the positives definately outweigh the negatives. Plus the breakfast is fantastic.
