Good location be careful what part you stay in

Double en-suite was a cold shed!

We stayed here in Dec 06. We had a double en-suite with our own cooking facilities. This may sound good but it a tiny very old in need of repair shed/chalet. Facilities all old, had to get shower repaired and bed clothes changed as soon as we arrived! It felt like we had gone back in time 50 years as nothing has seemed to have been renewed. It was summer and at night it got so cold it was hard to sleep as the walls and windows were so thin. But we can't comment on other accomodation areas in this hostel and the location is good. Just don't get stuck in the shed facing the main road.

Pleasant and comfortable accomodation

The dorm bed I stayed in was in a unit with 3 bedrooms and 2 toilets. The rooms weren't too cramped and the showers had good water pressure. It was clean and comfortable and only a short walk to the city. It has a share house type feel because of the layout. Overall, a very good place to stay in Queenstown.

Beware of "Budget" Accomodations

Our tour group--which has the worst taste in backpacker accomodations--again selected a loser, but with a twist. Pinewood Lodge rented out units J and K--same price as all other units for dorms, slightly cheaper for doubles ($50 as opposed to $60 or $70)-- which they tactfully (and with a very knowing glance) acknowledge are "in need of renovation." They should be ashamed to rent these units--ragged and stained carpets, terrible broken down beds, no water pressure in the shower and a broken toilet and toilet seat--make for an extremely depressing and uncomfortable stay. Having eight beds share one divided bathroom--toilet and sink are located in the back entrance to the unit on the "lounge" floor, a shower is in a small closet --is the perfect touch. I can blame our tour group for cheaping out on providing double rooms, but Pinewood is the one who benefits the most from this "accomodation."

Clean, central hostel which feels more like Chalets

We stayed in this hostel for quite some time while looking for a house in Queenstown to live in during the winter season. The Hosel is made up of different buildings and each of these are more like little chalets. We stayed in block M and this only had 6 double rooms and then a kitchen and t.v area purely for this block which meant that it never got crowded but it was more personal. The rooms and whole units are very clean and the hostel is only minutes walk from the supermarket and town centre. The hostel do discounts for weekly stays up until it gets really busy in the winter/summer peak months. Definately a newer looking hostel which I would stay in time and time again whether backpacking or on holiday!
