The A&O hostel on the Reeperbahn consists of 307 rooms – mostly private twin rooms although there is a fair share of dormitories as well. Because of its location in the heart of one of Europe’s biggest red light districts, it doesn’t get as many school groups as A&O’s other hostels although it does attract groups of football fans when there is a big game. The hostel is housed in the former Hotel Stern that A&O has acquired in 2009. The hostel doesn’t have as extensive facilities as the other A&O hostels in Hamburg with common areas limited to a big breakfast area with internet access (€2.50 for one hour; free Wi-Fi) plus a pool table and table football. Despite fewer school groups at this hostel, the limited common areas and the fact that there are TVs in every room (even the dormitories) mean that there isn’t much of a social atmosphere at this hostel.
