Staff not welcoming at all (Australia is supposed to be full of nice people and when I met the people working there, I thought 'where are the nice people supposed to be??', fortunately in other hostels in Brisbane you can find cool and helpful staff!!). Place was dirty, specially bathroom. Mattress were basically dead, so painful night, especially with the night club downstairs with music going on all night long that you can hear from your bedroom+ people screaming and shouting in the corridors...

This is an excellent hostel. If your intending to work in Brisbane, stay here! Every room & toilet has a secured entrance, there are 3 tellys..all sky. The staff are really friendly and every wednesday for $5-7 dollars they all meet up for free drinks all night and happy hour at the palace central. Ive met loads of class people out here, and its more like a home/hotel than any hostel. Some people say it has no charactar as very sterile..but for me its modern, clean, friendly and safe. The other palace is a bit tatty and does not share the same facilities.

This is by far the best hostel in Brisbane. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms good and cleaned daily, and the kitchen is clean and well equiped. The kitchen does get quite dirty towards the end of the day but that's because others can't be bothered cleaning up after themselves not the hostels fault. There are 3 TV rooms and 2 balcony areas to chill on. Had a great time here and will be back again.

This hostel had FANTASTIC facilites. The rooms were really clean and well kept. Kitchen was clean, bathrooms very clean. It was like a hotel with bunk beds :D The only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 star rating is because of where my room was located...right above the bar next store...so music would be BLASTING until the early morning hours - however I put my mp3 player on and just fell asleep to my music. Other than that, this hostel is a dream! would highly recommend it...as long as your room is not over the bar ;)

I stayed here in July 2005. The facilities, particularly the fabulous bathrooms, are among the best I've ever seen. Security is very tight, to the point where you need your access card to get through pretty much every door. Kitchen facilities are good. The tv room/theatre is large and comfortable. Hostel location is good for walking anywhere is the CBD and across the river.

A very good hostel. It's pretty new so it's very clean and modern. All rooms, bathrooms, front door and floors have key card entry, so very secured. There is a small 'cinema' where u can watch sky tv or dvds in, another TV room and a TV in the kitchen. The rooms are basic but very clean. The kitchen is large and generally clean but can get a bit dirty but only due to untidy backpackers not staff! There is a bit of a lack of cups too! The only real downside is that it is so new and clinical that it lacks a little atmosphere but is in the city centre so is close to plenty of bars with lots of atmosphere!

Probably the best in the middle of the city

I didn't find any problems with this place. I'd heard bad things about the other Palace up the road so I stayed here instead. It was in a great location in the middle of the city, it was quiet, there was a huge TV with surround sound and DVDs and comfy couches, there was a lift to take me to the 3rd floor, I was given a free pint voucher for the Down Under bar (which I used before buying several $4.50 pints!), there were 2 nice balconies on different levels, and it was close to shops and hot food places and a 24 hour convenience store, and only 5 mins walk up Edward St to the train station. My only issue was that it was a bit bland at times, but that wasn't really a problem.

Stayed here for a week and was very impressed with the cleaniess of the place. Bathrooms very good with special non-slip flooring. Swipe cards to all rooms for security. Kitchen very spacious and clean with a TV. Lift to all floors, perfect for heavy backpacks. In the centre of the city and all attractions are within easy walking distance. Only downside: all female only dorms sleep 8.

Better and friendlier than The Palace

I've stayed at both the palace hostels and have to say that the embassy down the road wins hands down, the embassy is alot better place to stay if you're a little bit maturer than the oz experience (which drops off at the palace) crowd but still a party animal. the facilities beat the palace hands down (which i moved out of after some beast had a crap in the showers, poor cleaning lady), its got great bathrooms and kitchen. thers an open area where you can get pissed and meet people overlooking the road below and also the best tv room in any hostel i stayed in in oz, its like a miny cinema with huge tv screen dvds and rows of very comfy sofas. if you're planning on visiting brisbane i'd more than recommend this place to stay.
