You couldn't go to a better hostel. Great reception, friendly warm. Knows everything about places to go around Akaroa and most of NZ. Doesn't feel crowded, can escape if you want your own time. Akaroa is a great place that often gets missed our favourite place in NZ. Good fish and chips.Lots to do, hectors dolphins, walks, kayaking, riding. Cathy is a fantastic host and a good friend now. Boots the dog is the greatest,we miss him so much. Don't miss out!

Bon Accord is like home from home. The hostel only has 6 dorm beds and a double/twin. There are also 2 doubles available in the owner's house next door. All beds have cosy duvets and you even get towels - at no extra charge. Each dorm bed has it's own individual locker. The kitchen is small but then with only 8 people, it seems to be adequate most of the time. There are such good cafes and bars in Akaroa anyway, it's not so hard to find somewhere suitable to eat out if you have a problem with the kitchen. The Madeira Hotel (opposite) offers $10 meals for anyone staying at Bon Accord which includes a soup starter and choice of 4 mains. Most days there is free banana cake too which is yummy!! If you want a party hostel, then don't stay here but if you want somewhere to recharge the batteries, it's perfect. There's no TV so people actually end up speaking to each other. There's no internet in the hostel but they have their own self-service internet cafe next door which is open until 10pm and costs $2 per 20 minutes. Akaroa is a stunning place with heaps to do so make sure you put aside a few days to explore it.

one oven and four hobs meant kitchen seemed to get crowded. but a good atmosphere i read visitor book and a lot of the faults which had been highlighted by people over a year ago had still not been addressed e.g creaky floorboards, no door between one of the dorms and the kitchen area so can get noisy if people stay up late. disappointing thing i found though was that the owner acknowleged in visitor book the faults and told people not to keep mentioning it however a year has gone by and still nothing is done thats fine but they charge the same as the chez la mer across the road which is much nicer
