This hostel didnt seem to be a hostel at all it was more like a b+b because the room were of much better quality than what we are used to. Breakfast consisted of fresh pineapple and melon, muffins, cereal, toast and tea and coffee. That was a nice surprise. The staff seem to be overworked but they were still very helpful. A movie is put on the big screen every night. The actual town is a fair old walk along the beach but the courtesy bus goes every hour. This is a downside but it is obvious from looking at the other hostels in town that it is a much better choice.

Excellent Hostel!!! I have stayed in Hostels all over Australia and this hostel is by far the best. In 2003 i stayed at bush village for 3 months, had the time of my life and never wanted to leave, recently when i returned to Oz for a months holiday i once again stayed at bushies, Since my last visit in 2003 all of the cabins have been updated (by far the best rooms in an Oz Hostel), there is now a new giant screen tv in the lounge showing movies by request and the staff are more friendly than ever. If you visit Airlie and would like to stay somewhere nice rather than wallowing in your own (and other peoples) puke at magnums then stay at Bush Village!!!

I chose this hostel as the reviews were so good, the advertising made it sound like the location was central and I wanted to see the baby kangaroos. Stupid me! Firstly, it is more like a retirement village than a backpackers. Not only was there no atmosphere whatsoever, but the staff are a little weird. (Perhaps they need a day off to recoup or something?) :( They were certainly friendly until they found out I had already booked my trip before I got there - things went downhill once this was discovered though. Talk about a hard sell!! All the advertising says they are right beside the main supermarket and the post office, but hello!! They are about 2 kilometres out of town - further than any of the other hostels, the main supermarket is actually miles away and the main post office is in Airlie Beach. And all those cute kangaroos on their brochure? Not one! And according to one of the shop owners in town, there haven't been any there for years now. What a con!

I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights, it definatley wasnt my cup of tea. The bus driver picked us up from the station and drove us at least 5 kilometers out of town, the curtesy bus was really late or really early, difficult to catch. I found the staff very un helpful, After reading the other reviews on this hostel it is possible that they were just having a bad week, if you stay here be prepared for bed bug bites, the owner said all the hostels up north have them, but I havent had them since, have fun I would recommend this place if you want a really, really, really quite time :(

I ended up staying at Bush Village for much longer than i had originally planned and even came back again a few months later with my family!! All the staff are so very nice and make you feel right at home. It is a wonderfully quiet and relaxing place to stay yet close enought to the craziness of town if you need to go there. I spent a lot of time just hangin' in the hammoks, even slept all night there a few times! Everyone is extremly helpful with booking any and all tours you may want to take and helping you with any onward travel plans if you can force yourself to leave! Great breakfast each morning with pretty birds comming to visit, and the free bus into town is a great bonus, but the walk to and from town is stunning with beautiful scenery, not too long a walk and you shouldn't be in that big a rush when you're on vacation anyway! But if you are in a rush, the taxi back only costs about $5 anyhow, so it really is no big deal, and you can walk to the supermarket from here, you can't do that from any of the other places. I fully recomend this place, you won't ever want to leave!! Love and miss all you guys out there, can't wait to get back. :p :p

the free bus is a godsend after travelling up from the sunshine coast overnight. the staff were very friendly and willing to help you out however they can. The breakfast is great yet to early for some!!! the bus didnt seem to stick the timetables, and you did have to be there 15 mins before the time on the timetable. there are nightly movies shown and you can by drinks etc from reception up until 9 pm. the cabins are big and spacious but did seem to share them with a colony of green ants ( horrible things!!) you get a tv, hobs, and toaster. it is definatly not a party place and would suit people who wish to relax, and also get to sleep at night. well worth a visit and would have stayed longer!

:D I stayed at Bush Village in September 2005 and was there for two weeks. I enjoyed every moment of my stay. The staff are so helpful and friendly and have a 'can do' attitude where nothing is too much trouble. The rooms were private and clean. The breakfast each morning was excellent. There is a free bus to and from town hourly so the fact they are a little out of the main street is not a worry. There is a supermarket right down the road and there is cooking facilities in both the communual area and your rooms at Bush. This is the perfect place to stay if you don't want to be amoungst all the noise and commotion in town. People here are respectful, friendly and I can't recommend Bush Village highly enough.

We where 4 people driving from Surfers in the middle of the night, pretty desperate to find a place to stay. We phoned Greg and he turned out to be a angel, a key was waiting for us when we arrived. When we woke up the next morning, I fell in love with the place! You just can`t leave when you first get there, so our 1 night turned in to 3. It was beautiful there, clean great cabins, beautiful nature, wallabies, friendly and helpful staff. (And the softest bed I ever slept in) They helped us to pick out and book a tour to Great Barrier, wich where fantastic. I loved the atmosphere there and I wanted to cry half the way back to Surfers. Thanks Bush Village, Chris and Greg for 3 amazing days in Airlie Beach!!:) I hope I get a chance to come back one day!

I loved it here. Yeah its a bit out of town but there is a courtesy bus mostly hourly until 11.15p.m, or a half hour walk. The accomodation is in self contained cabins with little kitchenettes and showers or you can use the brand new one at reception. Half the cabins are being refurbished and half are old and a bit shabby so it is pot luck which you get. Our one was a bit shabby but your not in for long and the rest of the hostel makes up for it. You get a free breakfast which includes hot muffins, cereal, toast, fruit, there are 3 wallaby's out the back you can bottle feed as thay are babies being rehabilitated. The owners are funny, friendly and very helpful. A video goes on a large screen every night at 8.30 ands they sell beer at reception. Best of all is the lovely friendly atmosphere, makes you wanna stay. Check it out, its a lovely place.

When i first got there i didn't like this place very much because it was far from the centre(it's not 10min, more like half an hour)and because the owner looked like Norman Bates from Psicho, and a bit grumpy. But the cabin where i was staying was lovely, they even put a little flower on your bed, very clean. the price includes breakfast; the owner turned out to be so helpfull, like his son; never really walked in town because they had a courtesy bus every hour Just not a party place

I was very impressed. Cabins with about 6 beds in each cabin, each with it's own kitchen, bathroom and dishes. Main lounge area was great with a movie screen. They were like a resort. The only downfall is that they were about a half hour walk fm town, but there is a free convenient shuttle van.

The Bush Village Resort has got to be among the best hostels in QLD and if you happen to be in Airlie, it's really worth considering going there. It's a bit of a walk into the town, but it really is quite a pleasant walk along the sea front (very beautiful, especially as the sun is setting)...or you could always get on the free minibus! The great thing about it's location is that it's only about five minutes walk to a shopping centre (turn left onto the main road and walk away from the town) and the prices really are only a fraction of the price they are in Airlie itself - great if you like to save money on food so you can spend it on all the great activities available in Airlie Beach! The hostel is really nice. They told me it was family run and it really does make a big difference as it's very friendly and the staff are helpful. I've stayed in both the standard and deluxe rooms and although both are fine it is worth paying just a few dollars more for the deluxe room - there's less beds (nice comfy beds!), refurbished bathrooms and kitchens - it's really quite a treat! You also get breakfast free, which is a nice touch and there's lots of wildlife to keep you amused! Enjoy!

Hi I stayed here for a week this summer. The staff were brilliant, were so helpful and a great laugh. Greg has some great stories and was a life saviour to us. The place is really clean and the breakfast is great. The complimentary bus was really handy. There is loads of wildlife about from possums to parrots and wallabys and cockatoos. I would recommend it to anyone. Enjoy it, its is hard to leave, we were only supposed to be there 3 nights!

I highly recommend Bush Village. It is by far the cleanest hostel I have stayed in. Each morning the cleaning staff scrub the place from top to bottom. The rooms are bright with crisp white sheets. The dorm rooms have ensuite and are self contained with great fridges (first time I had a freezer!). In the morning, a cheery face serves huge breakfasts including a variety of cereals and breads, fresh out-of-the-oven muffins, and a fruit platter. Chris is often strumming his guitar which sets a good mood for the day. While it is not a party hostel, the courtesy bus runs almost hourly into the main town for those who want some night life. Otherwise, chill out with a movie in the lounge. The pool and spa are clean and inviting compared to other hostels. It's the closest hostel to the marina, as well as the good supermarket in town. What else can I say other than stay here & see for yourself! It'll be hard to leave!

I stayed here twice in 2002 once on my way up to Cairns and again on my way south. Accomadation in the individual cabins was great with your own kitchen, microwave, fridge and tv. The most beds in the cabin was 4 and when I was their you got free breakfasts up at the main reception. It was a way out of town but they ran free busses into town regularly and their was the main supermarket for Airlie beach only a few minutes away.
