Resort style hostel
5 December 2008
Cons
Cold atmosphere, too big, and too far from everything...
Pros
Clean, open, tight security and organised.

This hostel by far has had the most amazing facilities I have seen so far (though I think I have only stayed in a total of 5 hostel on NSW coast line). It had a good size pool, several internet booths (not free though and you need to pay b4 reception closes) good tv room, pool table outside, onsight and enclosed/secured parking if you drove here, key access to your individual room, good sized kitchen and facilities. WOW! However, it just had such a rigid and cold feel. The lounge room's couches were perfectly aligned... but didn't do much for encouraging people to bond or 'hang out' as I have become accoustomed too in other hostels. Good selection of restraunts to eat from that are open until about 9.30/10pm on Sunday (the night we stayed) and a small but very adequate shopping centre all within walking distance- practically right across the road. To get to the city centre was a little drive, not sure what the public transport was like for those relying on it to get around though. Mutton Bird island is a short but challenging walk. Do it in the morning, one before it gets toooo hot and two before the mozzies come out to feast. Nice views and interesting to see where the birds are up to with making babies hehe The other place I would go and visit- though you will need a car is a look out a little further north then the big banana- i think it is off 'Bruxner Bay Rd'. It looks like a dead end but it is a beautiful scenic drive with one very short walk up a drive way looking path that private properties come off- awesome views of Id say either Korora Bay or Charlesworth Bay. Spectucular! A local actually suggested it when we were at Mutton Bird Island. Took lots of pictures- we had beatiful weather. I think Coffs is a good half way point if I was driving from Sydney to Byron Bay, Tweed Heads/QLD etc Hostel had large maps for you to plan your trip and brochures of other YHA hostels, as well as a list of things to do for under $50. Staff helpful and friendly.

Had a good time at this hostle staff are really friendly and helpful. Good mix of people. Facilities incl. tv room, swimming pool, lounge, internet ($5 ph). The lounge is a bit on the small side and separated from kitchen/dining by the pool area. Location is good, short walk from the train and close to Jetty Beach and Park Baech. Co-op for Fish and Chips at the marina is a must.

Good hostel but Coffs Harbour was a bit quiet

Cons
Not much open in Jetty area after 7pm
Pros
Relaxing hostel with good facilities

Super kitchen with a walk in refridgeration unit plus a standalone fridge exclusively for booze. If you don't have a car it is a bit restrictive as to shopping & evening entertainment. Couple of good walks along the creek to the botanical gardens & along the coastline but is was oh so quiet when I was there in November.
