I stayed at this hostel the last week of September 2006,overnight between Saturday and Sunday and I can say it is indeed a nice place. It is excellently located, the bus from the airport drops you off at the train station in the centre of Tampere and from there it's a 15-20 minutes' walk, there's no need to go by taxi. Upon arrival I was greeted with a smile and with a welcome by the pretty girl at the reception - so good first impression - was then given a form to fill in with all my details and went straight up to the room. I went by myself and stayed in a 5-bed dormitory, which was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable enough (normal beds no bunk beds,at least my room, don't know about the other rooms) and there were two sinks with hot water. The shower room was just across the room where I stayed and it was also very clean and tidy. One of the few flaws about the room was that the door was quite sturdy and you had to really push it to shut it so everytime my room mates were coming and going it made a big thud, last thing you want when you need some sleep but hey,you can still stay in single rooms if you are bothered by that ;) From the hostel you are within easy reach of the main things the city has to offer,Hameenkatu is the main thoroughfare with all the local amenities and the town centre is flanked by two beautiful lakes with adjacent woods, ideal for walking. There's no curfew at the hostel,in fact I went out on the town and came back at about 5am,the reception was manned so I was allowed back in with no problems. Breakfast was nothing special and quite basic but it is up to you whether you want it or not as it is extra but all in all this hostel is a good choice,I paid 26 Euros including breakfast so I guess it's ok for Scandinavian standards ? I haven't been to many hostels in my life but I can definitely recommend this one.

I do agree with the former review, again (like often in Finland) this is more like a hotel than a hostel, it's clean and the rooms are very big, but i was there in August - peak season- and the place felt completely empty, i was not just the only guest in my room but also on the floor, which makes you feel a bit wary while you're having your shower, and funny not being able to talk to other human beings for as long as i stayed there. Another thing i didn't like was the kitchen, i had the feeling it wasn't for guests but for people working or living there, way too small, with no dishes or cutlery,a broken microwave....and NO SINK (i had to go to the bathroom to wash my dishes!) I don't know other hostels in Tampere so i can't make a comparison, and i don't want to be too negative as it was ok but i didn't meet ANYBODY there, so it hasnt be much fun for me.

I stayed at this hostel in may 2003 and its definately one of the nicest hostels i have stayed in, it was much more like a hotel. i had booked a bed in one of the big shared rooms but when i got there was a big group of people staying there and they had been put in all the big rooms so they put me in a single room for the same price, the room was on the 7th floor and the view was very good The bed was new and very nice, there was also a desk, a chair, a bedside table and another table to put your suitcase on, there were 2 sinks and a wardrobe outside the room only to be used by my room and the next one . The toilets and showers were at the other end of the corridor and they too were spotless. you get a credit card type key whice you use both to get into your room and into the corridor itself . there is a TV room on the first floor and a resturant i think, though i didn´t really check it out So if you want a VERY clean quiet place to stay, this is it :)
