Small, poorly maintained and decorated, dirty carpets with cockroaches, no internet, far from town.

Cons
Basic, poorly decorated room lacking adequate fan/aircon, dirty carpet, cockroaches. No atmosphere.
Pros
Only price - including free breakfast and basic meal in town.

This admittedly cheap and small hostel feels as if it has seen better days. The rooms are basic & institutional and the carpets dirty, with cockroaches there and in toilets. No mosquito nets on windows. Noisy. Kitchen is poorly equipped and quite small though clean. Pool is tiny. Common areas limited in size and atmosphere. No internet. A good 20 minute stroll into town (though they do run a shuttle from mid-morning). No bar but food and drink shops are close by. Very depressing and disappointing experience. :(

i have stayed here before X-mass and new year and the atmosphere is great, had a wicked time apart from that the main chick @ reception is a complete incompetent person, all me tour bookings where not booked properly and the shuttle to the airport was not even booked at all so can't say that was the best experience for me as traveler  . but i did had a good time staying there apart from the fact i had to rebook everything myself. the rest off the staff was great. thanks for they hospitality simon and tracy.

I have satyed there for more than a week and I didn't have any kind of problems: no bed bugs, no ants, anything. They plan ur trips, toilets are clean. It´s, from my point of view a good place to stay. Shuttle buses from and to the airport and downtown. And the people are the nicest I met in all Australia hostels I've stayed

Its cheap. Which is good. I stayed there for a week. The free dinner is at the sports bar- its awful. I much prefered free Woolshed dinner that other places offer. The one big issue i had was the ants. There were millions of them. Stay there if you are poor- otherwise pay the extra few bucks and go somewhere else.

Good value

Not the flashiest of hostels, but great value. Where else could you get a bed, breakfast (cereals and toast with preserves), lunch (noodles), dinner (free voucher for the Woolshed) and hot drinks all day for thirteen bucks (you may need to take your own mug though cos they're in very short supply)?! OK, so the place needs a good scrub and some tender loving care ... but at the price who cares! Staff and the resident pussy (sorry guys, the feline variety!) are all friendly too. BTW, the place is scheduled for auction in November (2001) but may remain a backpackers hostel.
