this hostel is the worst hostel that i have come across in my travels. it is a total joke that they think u can stay in it. 1st i was told that i couldn't have a key to get up stairs, then my room door didn't lock and the room smelt so bad that i couldn't stay in the room for longer than two minutes. the kitchen is terrible with a cleaner that can't be assed to clean, so we are told by a staff member, who also can't be assed to clean the bath rooms oh and don't think u can have a shower with someone not walking in as they DON"T have locks on them. Never ever stay in this hostel, unless u are totally MAD!!! or would like to be covered in bed bugs!! and trust me this is no joke, if u don' believe go look for urself but really don't book to stay there, i have taken to the streets for tonight!!!

Quite simply the BEST hostel Ive stayed at in OZ! Ive travelled the The full east coast Melbourne to Cairns and this place is without doubt the best place Ive stayed. From the minute you walk in the door to the minute you leave Mick and Sioban never forget your name, They are friendly all the time and will always go of their way to help you out. In short bev and Micks felt more like home than a hostel. I spent 5 momths there in total. The place is clean, has good internet access 24 hrs a day, and is only a 5 minute tram ride from the City. Its the cheapest hostel ive stayed at and is unbelievable value for money. They have something on in the bar to keep you entertained most nights, They have Pool Comps, DVD nights, Celeb Chef night, free BBQ's, Kareoke, Quiz nights and to top it all off Joker Poker on a Friday night is not to be missed. If your up for a laugh and want somewhere to stay in Melbourne that you wont want to leave then Bev & Mick's Market Inn South Melbourne is the place for you! ;)

The good: 1. David (the owner) is friendly and helpful. 2. Very safe. 3. The hostel is opposite South Melbourne Market. The bad: 1. Certain male member of the staff is rude and unhelpful. I asked him whether I could burn CD in his hostel. He said "I DON'T KNOW!!!" His tone was so rude that I do not want anyone to contact him. 2. Very old hostle. 3. Creaky bed and floor. 4. Smelly room 5. Far from city. (at least 20 minute walk to Spensor Street Station and 30 minute walk to Flinders Street Station) 6. Tea, coffee and sugar are available 24 hours but milk is limited. (This means you have to drink tea or coffee without milk) 7. Free breakfast is available but limited.

We moved from NZ to Melbourne for work & had never stayed in a hostel so were quite scared. We were happy with the info on the web site so booked for a week. David the owner was super friendly & helpful & reimbursed the $30 we paid for the airport transfer he arranged for us. We also got the 7th night free. Room was clean & had a double bed & single bunk with comfy spring matress & clean linen including pillow & duvet, a small tv, hanging space, heater, fan, dirty tea spoon, duvet cover pinned over 1 window and useless short blind over the other. Very quiet @ night. Single bathroom per floor had a useless shower, no shelf for toiletries & I don't think it was cleaned during the week but it wasn't ultra filthy. Coin laundry & ironing area also on 1st floor. Common area was large & included dining area, big screen tv area with couches and bean bags (no smoking here), lounge area with couches (no smoking here), coffee table, books, & fireplace, & bar area with pool table & small tv (smoking here). Very clean & cosy. Also an outdoor area for drinking & smoking. No free drink on arrival as advertised & the "open bar" wasn't open if one of the long term British residents was "on a break". Difficult to tell who lived there & who worked there - but a reasonably friendly bunch when the mood took them - great friends if you're from the UK. No free bike hire or job help for me as advertised. Large kitchen, great free breakfast before 10am. 2 computers, $4/hr - when working, & coin operated phone, also when it works. Short tram ride by 112 tram to CBD or 15 - 20 minute walk. Large Coles supermarket 1 block away & directly opposite South Melbourne Market. Very secure - it takes 3 swipes of a card to get to your room. An ok experience, although some things should not have been advertised, bathroom could have been better, new paint & flooring in rooms & halls would have been good, and some of the staff could do with some customer service training. I'd probably go back seeing as I know what I'd be in for now. Thanks very much David!

This hostel has great staff and the owner is very friendly and helpful. The hostel has a large kitchen with all the pots and pans you need. After we left the hostel we heard that there was a revamp so should be even better! The hostel is very clean. It is slightly out of the city centre but only takes 10 mins to walk. Is one of the nicest hostels we have stayed in due to the friendliness of staff.

I've stayed at nomads for well over a year, as i'm a visitor from new zealand and have been working in melbourne during that time. I've stayed at nomads rather than getting a flat as it's close to the city, st kilda, the crown casino, plenty of bars, places to purchase food and a 24hr supermarket within walking distance. The atmosphere at the hostel is great with friendly, helpful staff, and reasonable facilities. The place seems to attract both people who are looking for long time accomodation and/or work, and those just passing through, so you get a good mix of people at any one time. Even during winter the place is reasonably full, so you'll always have someone to talk to. I'd recommend this hostel to anyone.
