Cute, clean hostel

This is a really good hostel. The owner is pretty friendly and helpful, and the hostel is welcoming, with a great view. The kitchen is big, and open 24 hours. I stayed in a family room one night and a dorm the next. The family room was nicer and really cute (lots of space, extra shelves, nice beds). The private rooms have been renovated and the ensuite bathroom was especially nice with new appliances. The dorm room was simple and smaller but still nice. The dorm bathroom is separate. The showers were not quite as good, as they are the push button kind (the new ones were not), and only ran for a short while. Both showers had plenty of hot water though. Everything was very clean. The hostel is a little bit out of town, but only a 5-10 minute walk, and it's a great location in terms of Hore Abbey (across the road) and the Rock of Cashel (across a different street and up the hill, although the shortest path is easy to miss from the bottom).

One of the nicest Hostels in Ireland

One of the nicest, if you like quiet, hidden, scenic types. The location was absolutely beautifull. Obriens is located just a few minutes outside town, right next to Hore Abbey and the Rock of Cashel. The actual entrance to the rock is on the far side though, but at least the view from the Hostel is not ruined with modern archtecture. The kitchen/den was large and well equipped, and always had a peat fire burning. The bathroom was also large, though very cold in the morning, and the shower had little pressure. The owner was very friendly. Checkin/out times were flexable.

Our Double en-suite room was small but perfectly formed with a view of the Rock and the Abbey. The bed was the most comfortable I'd slept in for ages and the room had been recently decorated/ new linen etc. The lounge/kitchen was sweet and had a log burning stove which the owner lit for us. The Tv was a bit small, but we weren't there for that anyway. It's only a short walk from the bottom of the town and there are some nice pubs there. There are cows in the field opposite and it feels really rural even though it's so close to town. I wish we'd stayed longer than only one night!

This hostel is a bit mixed, some of the smaller dorms are really lovely, with en-suite bathrooms, wooden beds, nice decor, etc., but the 6 beds are a bit less charming. That said the kitchen/sitting area is really lovely, with lots of room and a great atmosphere for chatting, as well as a big fridge and a great variety of pots and pans if you're into your hostel cooking. The owners are really nice and friendly and reservations are always kept. Amazing view of the Rock of Cashel by night, and it's just beside Hore Abbey - old Gothic building in ruins also really picturesque. It's an old farmhouse itself, and still has the atmosphere, but it is about a 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Cashel.
