Don't go to this hostel !!! Yes, they give you a job, but that's about it. In the end, they refuse to pay you your deposit and cheat on your money. At check-in I had to specify how long I'll stay and sign this. It has been said again and again that I have to stay as long as I work in the mediated job. And yes, it's a hostel and not a job agency. That's ILLEGAL! On 18.12. I checked out in the morning (same date like in my contract with the hostel), until today I am waiting for the repayment of my deposit. Very difficult everything. The manager works also in another hostel of the owner, probably that's the reason why he was rarely there and it is so incredibly dirty. When I arrived there was dirty laundry on the floor of the dorm. 3 days later this was finally cleared away. Dirty cutlery in the smoking area was unbelievable 3.5 weeks away! The toilet stinks of urine, the garden is a garbage dump and the kitchen does not deserve the name. Mouse feces in the drawers and everywhere, mouse traps and filth that does not have to come from weeks but months or years. There are no cleaners. I've never seen the owner of the hostel in 4 weeks and the manager is mostly in his room in the evening. He was actually only present when it came to collecting the weekly rent or new people arrived to fool them too. It's so easy to find a better and cheaper hostel nearby. The Orchards and Vineyards or temporary agencies are also always looking for employees. Do yourself a favor and avoid these cheaters!

CAUTION!!! Be extremely cautious if you are thinking about staying here. I have been in NZ for 9 months and these guys are BY FAR the worst scammers that I have ever encountered!! I arrived at this hostel after responding to a Backpacker board post stating that they needed workers for a $19/ hour vineyard job starting "immediately." I arrived on a Friday after I had communicated with the owner by email confirming that there is work possibly starting Saturday but forsure on Monday. After I arrived at least 25 other backpackers showed up while responding to the same post. So, Monday rolls around and NONE of us had work. Also the owner of this hostel, Jae, conveniently leaves for 6 WEEKS! Finally a few days later I received work that a job has been set up for me. I showed up to work two days in a row and both days the employer did not have work. I returned to the hostel and asked for my bond back and they refused to give it to me. They fill up the hostel promising work and you are lucky if you ever get work. Also this is probably the worst hostel you can choose in the Blenheim area. The rent is $140 pw with an upfront $140 bond. No other hostel in the area requires such a bond so that right there is a red flag. -The kitchen is a complete disaster with a cockroach and mouse infestation- Mose shit all over the cubbords, floor, counters ect. There is no designated person to clean up the common areas, at least not while I stayed there. -There is no heating in the hostel and it is freezing at night. -the dorms fit 11 PEOPLE! while the other hostels in town are much nicer and have a maximum of 4 people for the same price, or less. -This hostel is 5km from town in the wrong direction and some companies require that you drive to location. SO the two days that I "worked" I drove 45km ONE WAY! -The social area is completely disgusting. Most of the couches are torn up and sagging, there is obviously little effort to make it a comfortable environment. -They have the SAME contacts as everyone else in town. Don't get fooled into thinking that their contacts are any better than the other hostels. - The owner is almost impossible to contact. After everyone arrived and quickly realized that we were not all going to get work any time soon the owner, Jae, turned off his phone and we had no one to talk to. I have stayed in many hostels all around the world and I have NEVER written a review, good or bad. But this place is diffrent, save yourself the wasted time and money, there are plenty of other options in Blenheim. Here are a few: http://www.duncannon.co.nz/ https://www.blenheimbackpackers.co.nz/

***TO AVOID*** Very dirty inn (dead cockroaches in the kitchen), cold and dishonest boss ... ... With a friend, we arrived at this hostel because we responded to an ad on backpakerboard that offered us a job and a bed in a hostel. Arrival in the hostel (the boss didn't tell us the name of the hostel until we arrived) ... horror. The boss is very cold man, dirty inn (dead cockroaches in the kitchen). We started working 3 days later but we wanted to change hostel. When we told the boss that we wanted leave his hostel, he first tried to make us believe that we were bound by contract (which was not the case ... it is only a simple hostel) He finally put us out at 6pm (without worrying that we had no car or place to sleep, the hostel being a few miles from town) the boss is an angry, dishonest man. For $ 140 per week, there are a few hostels on blenheim which are fairly clean, which will also help you find a job.
