I stayed at the beachouse for 4 months and found it to be the best hostel i stayed at in Australia, the hostel was easy to find work at as they provided a jobs board that always had heaps of work for me!!I even learnt to surf!! The staff were all so friendly and helpful , I would definentley reccomend this hostel to anyone especially if you have just arrived in Australia and need to work and save up a bit before you travel elsewhere!! The surf rock pub across the road saw most of my paychecks each week, but it was well worth it.Thanks beachouse for being my home away from home!!

I booked three nights and paid in advance, but the XPT train arrived late and I couldnt reach the hostel the first night. I asked for a refund on the first night only, but the receptionist refused. They didnt even know about my booking, or the payment Id already sent through. I had trouble trying to retrieve the printouts of the reply emails and letter Id taken as proof. They denied sending them. Male staff barged into female dorms at any time without giving the occupants of the room any warning. There were no organised volley ball games, free surf lessons on the mechanical board, or didgeridoo lessons and aboriginal culture as advertised. Although one of the reception boys acknowledged they did have the mechanical surfboard, but it wasnt set up and they hadnt used it in months, he promised to set it up for me before I left, but he never kept his promise. I was surprised to meet the night watchman, they said they didnt have. They also said they didnt have any after hours contact number in case I did arrive late, yet the night watchman said they should have given me his mobile number and name; he lived there and could be contacted at any time. Even he didnt tell me his name though. Countrylink called Telstra for a contact number and rang the hostel several times from 7.30 pm, but there was no answer. The hostel also gave me an incorrect time for their office hours. There was a microwave, but no microwave-safe dishes to cook with and very few saucepans. Three times, I asked about a laundry and clothesline. One of the staff said there wasnt any laundry, but there was a clothesline and refused to tell me where it was. Their advertisements for free tea and coffee was a lie too. Lucky I take my own now. They told me there were no shops in the area, but there are. According to an information book the hostel put together, they arrange the Home and Away tours in Palm Beach, yet they told me they didnt know anything about Palm Beach and theyd never heard of Home and Away? The air conditioning was turned on high in the bedrooms all the time I was there and I practically roasted. The atmosphere was icy and everyone sat in their groups or in couples, refusing to mix. I was even kicked out on Christmas Day with no warning and forced to spend all day in the wind and rain, with no shelter. I was only allowed back later that evening to sleep, yet Id paid up until the following day. I couldnt even buy a cup of coffee, or something to eat later that evening because there wasnt anything open. The atmosphere in the hostel was depressing. Disappointed, disgusted & angry.

We moved to this hostel after seeing their ad in British Balls saying that there's loads of work in the local area. Unfortunately for us, all the incoming work was for men (labouring & stuff) & nothing came of registering at the local agencies, so we only stayed a week. However, we loved the time we spent there... the hostel is modern & new & clean & literally just across the road form the beach. There's lots of communal areas, including a balcony & bbq area with a little pool. There's not really much in Collaroy, but the hostel puts something on quite a few nights (movies, didgery doo lessons...) & they also do a supermarket run to Woolies or Coles a couple of times a week.

While the beachhouse had very nice, clean facilities and a helpful staff, it could not overcome its absolutely miserable location. We booked it sight unseen and had no idea it would take nearly two hours to get there from the airport. Collaroy is effectively dead and if you want to experience Sydney's beaches you would be much better off staying in Manly or Bondi. If you want a quiet place that kicks everyone off of the balconies and out of the common areas by 10 p.m., the Beachhouse is the place for you.

I spent a week here and it was the best week of my entire trip! It's clean, comfortable, spacious and has the best amenities all for free. You can take bikes out or grab a free surf or body board. The location is awesome, just steps from the beach. There are always events and activities planned and they even have grocery store runs daily. The pool is nice, the eating area is huge, and the best thing is that there's actually enough burners in the kitchen to make your meal. The facilities are nothing short of awesome, and the staff are so friendly! When I come back to Oz one day, I want to stay here again. Thanks for the great stay!

Stayed at the Beachhouse for the majority of my time in Australia. It was like a home from home and everyone was part of a big family. Made so many friends most of which I`m still in touch with from all of the world. The beachhouse is near enough to Sydney for the nights out and for work while still being a very short walk from the beach. Its also the Ritz of backpacking for a reasonable price with very clean facilites and a decent pool. If you want great Beaches and the Sydney lifestyle then the Sydney Beachhouse is the place to go..... Miss it Miss out.....

Nice for those backpackers that don't particularly like to backpack. Too many rules and not laid back enough.
